HP DL180G6 and Ubuntu Linux

My goal is to get the brand new HP DL180G6 server working with Ubuntu Linux 8.04 LTS. The reason we’ve selected this server was, that it has 12 3.5″ HD slots, which can be filled with SATA disks. The main problem actually is the RAID controller Smart Array P212, which is also brand new. The cciss driver is mentioned to be supported in kernel 2.6.26, but Ubuntu 8.04 uses 2.6.24.

Atm I’m trying to get Ubuntu server 9.04 with kernel 2.6.28 to work. Right now, mkfs.ext* on a partition hangs forever and does not finish.

This post will be updated as soon as I have news.

First cool thing is, that Seagate Barracuda 1TB disks can be put in and are recognised by P212.
