Use unsupported miniGBIC with Cisco Devices

If you use unsupported SFP miniGBIC modules in Cisco devices, they might say, that it doesn’t like those. The interface will be on error disable then (err-disable). You can trick the device to support those unsupported devices by configuring the following:

  • service unsupported-transceiver
  • no errdisable detect cause gbic-invalid

To get rid of the err-disable message, simply do a shutdown/no shutdown sequence on that interface.
